Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Assessment of Differential Rents.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a communication from the Dublin City Council requesting that the recent grant of one shilling to recipients of social welfare benefits should not be taken into account when assessing differential rents, and, if so, if he will introduce legislation to provide accordingly.

I received the letter referred to and informed the housing authority that the matter will be considered on receipt of any order which the manager may make on the matter.

On that point, I was in touch with the manager to-day and he informed me it was approved by him and that he has to await the Minister's approval.

The Deputy is making a statement. Instead of asking for information, he is giving information.

I am asking for action.

In reply to the Deputy's statement, let me once again assure him that until I get a managerial order on this matter, I have no function in it, and it is a matter for the Deputy, as a member of the corporation, and the city manager and council to move in the matter, if they want action.

For the Minister's information, I will see the Minister first thing in the morning. I want the Minister to remember that those people who are supposed to get a 1/- have been in receipt of only 9d. for the past eight months.

If the corporation has something to do in this matter, I cannot see what is the point in the Deputy coming to see me in the morning.

To see the manager.

I understand the Minister is just shoving it back on the city manager.

If you do your business properly, it will not be necessary to come to me.

It was sent to you and you sent it back, I understand.

No order was sent to me. Until that happens, I do not enter into this matter at all.

All right. We will deal with it then.
