Vol. 167 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Monaghan Rivers.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to undertake the work of draining the River Fane and the River Blackwater in County Monaghan; and, if so, when.

The catchments of the Rivers Fane and Blackwater will be considered in due course for treatment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945; but it is not possible, at this stage, to say when they can be reached in the arterial drainage programme.

May I take it that the difficulties that arose, owing to their being associated with the catchment areas not of the Border, have now been overcome?

That element is in the question, but the Deputy will appreciate that a priority list has been made out and the River Fane, as a minor catchment, is not very high on it nor is the major catchment area of which it forms part very high on the list either. It is true to say that both are bound up with a Border catchment area.
