Vol. 169 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of District Nurses.

asked the Minister for Health if it is proposed in appointing district nurses to give prior consideration to those who have held such appointments in a temporary capacity, provided that they have the necessary qualifications.

Health authorities have already been notified that a departure from the regulations will be authorised to permit of the appointment to permanent posts as public health nurse—the name which has been adopted for use in future in respect of the grade formerly known as district nurse—without advertisement or competition, of temporary district nurses who have the necessary qualifications and who satisfy certain conditions as to service. The initiative in the making of appointments in this way, however, rests with the health authority.
