Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of Hospitals Commission.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state who are the present members of the Hospitals Commission, the date of the appointment or reappointment in each case, and the payment made to each such member.

The present members of the Hospitals Commission are: Mr. Michael Doran, Chairman, first appointed on 21st September, 1933, and reappointed at the end of each two year period of office, the latest reappointment being made on 21st September, 1957; Mr. Michael Kilroy, first appointed 21st October, 1937 to 20th September, 1939, and reappointed at the end of each period of office until 20th September, 1949, not reappointed after 20th September, 1949, but reappointed on 24th September, 1958; Mr. John McCann, first appointed on 27th May, 1954 and reappointed at the end of each two year period of office, the latest reappointment being on 27th May, 1958; Mr. John J. McWeeney, appointed 4th March, 1957; Mr. Patrick Cogan, appointed 4th June, 1957; Dr. John P. Shanley, appointed 24th October, 1958.

The remuneration of the chairman is at the rate of £1,500 a year, of Dr. John P. Shanley at the rate of £800 a year, and that of each of the other members at the rate of £500 a year.

And one of them called the Minister a senile delinquent before he was appointed.

A neutral and impartial body.

Certainly, very useful.

Did he have to apologise for calling the Minister a senile delinquent before he was appointed?
