Vol. 171 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landrace and White York Pigs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether as a result of the pig progeny testing in Cork he has any information on the qualities of the Landrace and Large White York breed of pigs.

Tests have been proceeding at Cork in respect of the progeny of 37 Large White boars and have now been completed in respect of seven of these. Following study of the results of completed tests, the information obtained will be published from time to time.

As a necessary preliminary to progeny testing, Landrace breeders are having litters recorded under my Department's litter recording scheme, and it is expected that suitable litter groups of the breed will soon be available for testing at the Cork station. The results of such tests will also be published in due course.
