Vol. 171 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brittas (Dublin) Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the acreage of the Dowd estate near Tinode, Brittas, which was acquired by the Irish Land Commission, (b) the price paid, and (c) why arable land suitable for cultivation is being reserved for forestry purposes, and the acreage concerned.

Following are replies to the various parts of the question:—

(a) The total area purchased was 116 acres.

(b) The sale was a voluntary transaction and it has not been the practice to publish the purchase price in such a case.

(c) Of the total of 80 acres reserved for afforestation, less than four statute acres could be classed as arable. The configuration of the lands would not justify segregation of such a small segment from the forestry block.
