Vol. 171 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arable Land for Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) how much arable land has been offered to the Land Commission by the Forestry Division in the past three years, and (b) how much of that land has been accepted.

With a view to expediting afforestation, formal references between Forestry Division and Land Commission are kept to a minimum and Land Commission inspectors are attached to Forestry Division to facilitate consultations in relation to acquisitions. Statistics have not been compiled by the Land Commission in respect of the cases in which such consultations have taken place during the past three years.

Since 1st November, 1955, the Land Commission have purchased a total area of 1,029 acres from the Forestry Division.

Do the Forestry Department ever give back any arable land to the Land Commission?

The Land Commission purchased a total area of 1,029 acres from the Forestry Division.

Sorry, I did not hear that.
