Vol. 172 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance under Workmen's Compensation and Social Welfare Acts.

21.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) the estimated number of employees effectively insured for the purposes of the Workmen's Compensation Acts, (b) the estimated number not so insured, and (c) the total number of persons insured for the purposes of the Social Welfare Acts, 1952, as amended.

The information asked for at (a) and (b) is not available in my Department. As regards (c) the total number of persons effectively insured under the Social Welfare Acts at the most recent available date is estimated to be 721,000. This figure does not include persons who became insurable under the provisions of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1958, under which the insurable limit for non-manual employment was raised from £600 to £800 per year. It is estimated that approximately 18,000 persons became insurable under that Act.
