Vol. 172 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Future of St. Mary's Chest Hospital.

5.

asked the Minister for Health if it is proposed to continue to use St. Mary's Chest Hospital, Phoenix Park, as a sanatorium and hospital for patients suffering from tuberculosis; and if in view of the uncertainty felt among members of the staff concerning the future of the hospital he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy no doubt gathered from my reply to a similar question which he addressed to me on this matter on the 19th March last, St. Mary's Chest Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin, is maintained by the Dublin Corporation for the purpose of providing institutional treatment for adult cases of respiratory tuberculosis from Dublin County Borough and Dublin County. Any proposal by the Dublin Corporation to discontinue St. Mary's as a health institution would be subject to my approval. It has been ascertained that the corporation has no such proposal under consideration, as that body feels that St. Mary's will be required as a chest hospital, at least for some years to come.
