Vol. 173 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Costings Commission: Cost of Report.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the gross cost of the Milk Costings Commission Report; and what use is being made of it.

The total cost was £31,980, including the cost of the investigations on which the report was based. The data made available in the report are of use to all who are interested in the economics of milk production.

Would the Minister state the use to which this document has been put, the people to whom it has been circulated and the reason why extracts from it have not been published in the Press?

That enlarges the question considerably.

I have made the report available to the Press and I have indicated here that it is available to any Deputy who requires it.

Would the Minister state any benefit accruing to the Government from having this report in their possession?

The report, I understand, was not sought for the purpose of benefiting the Government.

It was sought for the purpose of bluffing the people.

We could almost prove that milk could be produced at the price the Deputy offered some time ago, namely, 1/- per gallon.
