Vol. 173 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Connemara Family.

8.

asked the Minister for Lands what are the immediate hopes of a transfer to the Midlands of the Nee family, Alnabroon, Kilkerrin, Carna, County Galway, who must emigrate with their ten children if there is no hope of a transfer.

An application for migration made by this family has been noted by the Land Commission for consideration, but it is not possible at present to state if or when migration will be feasible. The number of applications for migration far exceeds the number of holdings which become available for migrants in any year, and the case to which the Deputy refers must be considered in competition with all other applications received.

Would the Minister use his good offices to expedite a decision on this?

I am always encouraging the migration of people, but the difficulty is, in relation to any particular applicant, how far his lands will serve rearrangement of other lands. The Land Commission have to make a somewhat difficult choice.

In view of the fact that this man will be an emigrant in the near future, if something is not done, would the Minister do what he can in the matter?
