Vol. 173 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority House Rents.

19.

asked the Taoiseach if he will indicate generally in convenient groups or ranges the average rents of local authority houses in each county which entered into the compilation of the Consumer Price Index of November, 1958; and, if the information is readily available, if he will state the number of houses in each group, range or sample.

The data assembled for the purpose of the computation of the Consumer Price Index, on the level of rents (including rates) of occupied rented dwellings owned by local authorities are not obtained in a form which would make it possible to classify the dwellings in each county into different groups based on the level of rents paid. For each county and county borough (as well as for Dún Laoghaire Borough) it is, however, possible to give the number of rented dwellings and the average weekly rent (including rates) as returned for the compilation of the Consumer Price Index at mid-November, 1958. This information is provided in the following statement in which the returns for dwellings owned by all local authorities within each county have been combined. In a few cases returns were not received for certain authorities and the figures in the statement do not, in all cases, represent the total number of local authority dwellings in the area.

DATA on number of occupied rented dwellings owned by local authorities in each County, County Borough and Dún Laoghaire Borough together with the average weekly rent (including rates) of such dwellings in each area used in the compilation of the Consumer Price Index at mid-November, 1958.
