asked the Minister for Local Government if he will favourably consider the introduction at an early date of legislation to enable members of the Garda Síochána to vote at Dáil and Presidential elections.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Votes for Gardaí.
17.
The Government have decided to provide in legislation for the revocation of the statutory prohibition which precludes members of the Garda Síochána from being registered or voting at Dáil elections and, consequently, from voting at presidential elections and at referenda.
It is intended that the necessary provision will be included in forthcoming legislation to amend the electoral law.
Will they have the vote for the Presidential election? Will legislation be introduced before that?
The Deputy does not need to ask that.
Why?
The Deputy should use his head. The Deputy is quite well able to do that in this case.
