Vol. 174 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what future use is to be made of the former Royal Hospital, Kilmainham; what is the cost of the repairs being carried out on the buildings; when the work commenced; and when it is expected it will be completed.

A decision on the future use of the Royal Hospital has not yet been made.

The work now in progress at the premises is confined to the eradication of dry rot and wood-boring beetle in the north wing of the main building. This work was commenced in November, 1957 and will, it is hoped, be completed about the middle of 1960. As the extent of the treatment required can only be determined as the structure is opened up it is not possible at this stage to give a firm estimate of the cost; it is expected, however, that it will be of the order of £45,000.
