Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exchequer Statement

34.

asked the Minister for Finance if in respect of the Exchequer Statement issued for the period to 30th September, 1959, there are any items which are not computed on the same comparable basis as for the previous year—with the exception of tobacco duty; and, if so, whether he will explain the new method of computation and the comparison that would have been appropriate if the computation was made out on the old basis; and, in particular, if he will explain whether the increase in Post Office receipts of £700,000 arises from this cause, and, if not, from what circumstance.

The revision of the arrangements for the paying over of Post Office revenue to the Exchequer, to which I referred in reply to a question by the Deputy on 2nd June last, continued during the half year and, as a result, Post Office receipts amounting to up to £350,000 were paid over at an earlier stage this year than last year. Apart from this and the tobacco arrangement to which the Deputy refers, no other new arrangement has been made affecting the rate of payment into or out of the Exchequer.
