Vol. 177 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Judiciary.

43.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the present salaries of (a) the Chief Justice, (b) Judges of the Supreme Court, (c) the President of the High Court, (d) Judges of the High Court, (e) the President of the Circuit Court, (f) Judges of the Circuit Court and (g) Justices of the District Court.

The present annual salaries are as follows:—(a) Chief Justice, £4,850; (b) Judges of the Supreme Court, £3,700; (c) President of the High Court, £3,700; (d) Judges of the High Court, £3,250; (e) President of the Circuit Court, £3,250; (f) Judges of the Circuit Court, £2,575; (g) Principal District Justices of the Dublin Metropolitan District, £2,010; (h) Dublin Metropolitan and Cork City District Justices, £1,880; (i) other District Justices, £1,750.

Are these the individuals who are to get a ten per cent. increase to operate since 1st January under the Courts of Justice Bill which is being introduced by the present Government?

That seems to be a separate question.

I suggest the Deputy reserve his observations for the Bill.

Heaven help the Minister then.
