asked the Minister for Health if he will state (1) the weekly cost of food for an inmate in the public assistance institutions in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford, and (2) the annual cost of clothing for the inmates of these institutions.

I presume the question has reference to persons who are in institutions primarily because their need is for shelter and maintenance and that the Deputy has not in mind persons, including chronic patients, who are in receipt of medical treatment. On that basis the figures for 1957/58, the latest year for which figures are available in my Department, are as indicated in the tabular statement which, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I am circulating with the Official Report.
