asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) the number of widows' and orphans' pensions cases reviewed by officers of his Department in County Kerry in each of the past two years, (b) the number of cases in which allowances were reduced, and (c) the number of cases in which payment of pensions was discontinued.

In County Kerry in the year ended 30th September, 1958, 605 widows' and orphans' Non-Contributory Pension cases were reinvestigated; 20 pensions were reduced, 46 discontinued and 11 increased.

In the year ended 30th September, 1959, 385 cases were reinvestigated; 8 pensions were reduced, 35 discontinued and 6 increased.

Of the pensions discontinued in the two years in question, only 15 and 9 respectively were terminated on grounds of means.
