Vol. 178 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pensioners.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of Civil Service pensioners who will be affected by the Pensions (Increase) Bill, 1959, and whose present pensions are less than £100 per annum, between £100 and £150 per annum, between £151 and £200 per annum, between £201 and £250 per annum, between £251 and £300 per annum, between £301 and £350 per annum, between £351 and £400 per annum, between £401 and £450 per annum, between £451 and £500 per annum, and over £500 per annum.

The number of Civil Service pensioners who will be affected by the Pensions (Increase) Bill, 1959, are:

142 with pensions of less than £100 per annum; 304 with pensions from £100 to £150 per annum; 248 with pensions from £150 to £200 per annum; 276 with pensions from £200 to £300 per annum; 238 with pensions from £300 to £450 per annum and 231 with pensions of over £450 per annum.

Particulars are not readily available of the number of pensioners in the subdivisions of the ranges £200 to £300, £300 to £450 and over £450 which appear in the Deputy's question. I hope, however, that the particulars that I have given will be adequate for the Deputy's purpose.

Did I understand the Tánaiste to say that particulars are not readily available for the limits between £200 to £450?

They were available to me when the 1956 Act was going through.

But the Deputy was an exceptional Minister.

I am glad the Tánaiste realises it.

He could invent his own information.

I have the whole brief here that I got. The Minister for Finance has not read his.
