Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Wage Permits.

37.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that over thirty permits to enable agricultural workers to be employed at less than the minimum rates were granted by the Agricultural Wages Board early this year, and that the wages payable to the workers were specified in the list of permits granted by the Board; if he will state whether in the event of non-compliance on the part of the employers concerned the Board have power to recover any underpayment of wages; and if he will indicate the provisions of the Agricultural Wages Act under which such underpayments of wages may be recovered.

I understand from the Agricultural Wages Board that, in the cases referred to by the Deputy, the permits did not specify the wages to be paid. The remainder of the Question does not, therefore, arise.
