Vol. 180 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licences for Importation of Shoes.

21.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of licences issued for the importation of shoes in each of the past two years, and the total number of pairs and the total value thereof covered by such licences.

In 1959, 376 licences were issued pursuant to the Control of Imports (Quota No. 3) Order, 1934, authorising the importation of 106,238 pairs of footwear, other than footwear made wholly of rubber. The corresponding issue in 1958 was 515 licences authorising the importation of 150,223 pairs of footwear.

It is not possible to furnish the particulars sought by the Deputy as regards value for the reason that quota licences granted for footwear are expressed in terms of quantity and not in terms of value.
