Vol. 180 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remuneration of Sub-Postmasters.

43.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether authority has yet been given for the payment to sub-postmasters of the recent general increase awarded to Civil Servants; and when such payment will be made.

The Irish Sub-Postmasters' Union has submitted a claim for the extension to Sub-Postmasters of the cost-of-living increase awarded to Civil Servants from the 15th December, 1959. Pay claims on behalf of Sub-Postmasters are proper to be dealt with by the Sub-Postmasters' Consultative Council but the Council has not yet made a recommendation on this claim.

Has it not been the practice heretofore that when salary increases were awarded to the civil servants, the increases were also awarded to the sub-postmasters, and will the same procedure be followed in this case?

The current claim is channelled through the Sub-Postmasters' Consultative Council.
