Vol. 182 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of Carrigahorrig (Tipperary) River.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that North Tipperary County Council spent money carrying out a survey on the Carrigahorrig river previous to the withdrawal of the Local Authorities (Works) Act grants; and, if so, if he will now consider giving to the North Tipperary County Council a grant to clean this river.

I am aware of the survey mentioned. I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of the 21st July, 1959, so far as grants for drainage work on this and other rivers under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, are concerned.

Is it not a fact that the Minister has power, where the County Council had spent money prior to the withdrawal, to give a grant for the finishing of the work?

He has no money.

He has the power but does not want to use it. That is the simple answer.
