Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching Service in the Foreign Missions.

107.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the dissatisfaction of the secondary teacher profession generally because of the fact that his Department refuse to recognise teaching service in the foreign missions as service for the purpose of incremental scales in this country; and if he will take steps to rectify the position.

Following on the Taoiseach's statement in relation to the help that we would be in a position to give to underdeveloped countries and to countries which have just attained self-government, I saw representatives of the foreign mission societies on this matter. The question of recognising teaching service given by Irish persons in such countries is at present under active and sympathetic consideration by my Department.
