asked the Taoiseach if he will state with reference to the appointment of assistant medical officers at (a) Grangegorman, and (b) Limerick mental hospitals (1) the number of applicants for both appointments, (2) the number who were not residents of the State, (3) the number who were already in employment in the State at the date of their applications, (4) the number who had dependants in the State, and (5) the number with post-graduate qualifications.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, Sir, to circulate it in the Official Report.

The following is the Statement:—

APPLICANTS for appointment as Assistant Medical Officer in the Mental Health Services of the Dublin and Limerick Health Authorities, October, 1960:

(1) Number of applicants for both appointments

68 (34 of whom were double applicants).

(2) Number of applicants who were not residents of the State

(3) Number of applicants who were already in employment in the State at the date of their applications

(4) Number of applicants who had dependants in the State

Information regarding dependants is not sought from applicants.

(5) Number of applicants with post-graduate qualifications
