Vol. 187 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Specific Building Schemes.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will now sanction proposals from local authorities regarding the proposed erection of houses for childless couples and persons with small families; and if he will indicate generally his Department's policy on, and interpretation of, urgent need and eligibility for the purposes of specific building schemes or nominee site schemes.

With regard to the first part of the Question, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question asked by him on the 26th October last. As regards the second part of the question, the considerations to be observed in formulating housing proposals were the subject of a circular letter to housing authorities on 12th October last, and in a circular letter issued in 1952 rural housing authorities were encouraged to operate what is known as the "specific instance" procedure. I shall have copies of these circular letters sent to the Deputy.

Would the Minister not consider that a copy of that latter document sent to local authorities should be published as an appendix to the Report?

If I thought it was of benefit to anybody, I would.

I should be very happy to receive it.

I shall consider that.
