Vol. 187 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monaghan Land Project Delays.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has received complaints from County Monaghan about unreasonable delays in carrying out work and in the payment of grants under the Land Rehabilitation Project; and, if so, what he proposes to do to remedy this situation.

During the past six months, representations were received in regard to the expediting of a total of 12 cases in County Monaghan. I am aware that a rather difficult arrears situation developed in the county last year, due to a considerable increase in applications. Additional staff were assigned to the county and certain organisational changes have also been introduced. As a result, it is expected that arrears of work will be largely overtaken within six months.

I may mention that, during the past year, over 1,000 applications were approved in County Monaghan and that the number of cases in which payment was made was a record.
