NOTES
The figures in column (2) are calculated on the basis of the number of electors in the register of electors for 1960-61.
In the case of constituencies substantially different from the present constituencies the percentage assumed is that obtained on the basis of the total valid poll and the total electorate in approximately the same area in the 1957 general election.
17.
asked the Minister for Local Government if with reference to the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1961, he will state the electoral divisions of the present North Kerry constituency which are being transferred to South Kerry.
Under the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1961, it is proposed that the district electoral divisions of Ballinvoher, Ballyduff, Ballynacourty, Boolteens, Brandon, Castlegregory, Cloghane, Deelis, Dingle, Dunquin, Dunurlin, Glin, Inch, Kilgarrylander, Kilmalkedar, Kilquane, Kiltallagh, Kinard, Lack, Marhin, Minard, Stradbally and Ventry in the present constituency of North Kerry should be included in the new constituency of South Kerry.
18.
asked the Minister for Local Government if with reference to the Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1961, he will state the reason for allocating an average electorate of 12,756 per member to South Kerry and only 11,692 to North Kerry.
As the number of electors in different constituencies is not a constant proportion of the population, differences in the average number of electors per deputy in various constituencies, such as those mentioned by the Deputy, may arise in consequence of the constitutional obligation to formulate constituency revisions on a population basis.
Questions Nos. 19, 20 and 21 postponed.
