An independent system of examinations for the grant of Irish certificates of competency as deck and engineer officers in merchant ships was not introduced until 1953.
In so far as the information sought is available for the years from 1953 onwards it has been compiled in tabular statements, which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, it is proposed to circulate in the Official Report.
