Vol. 188 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Galway Lakes.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance if his Department have yet come to a decision concerning the drainage of the Glenamaddy and Cashel lakes in the Clare-Corrib drainage scheme; and, if so, when he expects that work will commence.

The engineering investigation of the Glenamaddy area is virtually completed and the report will be considered very soon. The Cashel area is more complicated and further study is required, but a decision will be taken as early as possible.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance if his Department have decided not to carry out drainage work in the Curragh and Pollea lakes in the Corrib-Clare drainage scheme; if so, what the reason was for such decision; and when the decision was taken.

These lakes are outside the Corrib-Clare catchment area. The natural drainage is into the Suck catchment and they will be considered in connection with a scheme for that catchment.
