Vol. 189 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Works.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance what work has been completed on Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Pier; what work is at present in progress; what is the number of persons employed, and the cost of the work completed to date; and when it is expected that the work will be completed, and the total cost.

The improvements carried out on the Mail Boat Pier, Dún Laoghaire, are the provision of an upper level enclosure along the east side and around the seaward end to approximately midway along the west side, with a connecting passage. The west platform has been widened to permit the passage of cars. Part of the east platform has been widened and the east approach road has been improved; covered accommodation for queues and improved sanitary facilities have been provided at the root of the Pier. At present 35 men are employed on finishing work on structures and on further improvement to the east approach road.

Other works sanctioned are continuation shoreward of the upper level enclosure on the west side, the provision of a left luggage office, improved queueing space and extra toilet accommodation and two cranes will be provided for handling cars. It is expected that they will be completed next year.

The cost of the work up to 30th April, 1961, was £131,000 approximately and the total cost is estimated at £200,000.
