Vol. 192 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Congestion in Mayo.

35.

asked the Minister for Lands what steps the Land Commission are taking to relieve congestion in the townland of Scregg, Aghamore, County Mayo, and other adjacent townlands.

Some enlargement and rearrangement of holdings has been carried out in these townlands, but land settlement has been limited by the reluctance of occupiers to migrate. The Land Commission are continuing their enquiries to see whether suitable additional land can be acquired.

Will the Minister get the Land Commission to bring up the question of further migration in that townland and the area surrounding it, because it is possible that the reluctance the Minister mentioned has vanished?

This is one of the places in which the Land Commission have been most anxious to get migrants to agree to co-operate with them.

They might get the co-operation now.

They may change their minds. The sooner they do, the quicker there will be a solution.
