Vol. 194 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - R.M.S. of Galway Regional Hospital.

11.

asked the Minister for Health who is now responsible for the duties of the resident medical superintendent in the Regional Hospital, Galway City; and when it is proposed to fill that post.

Applications for the vacant office of Resident Medical Superintendent of Galway Regional Hospital were invited by the Local Appointments Commission on the 15th of this month. Arrangements for the filling of the vacancy will be made after receipt of a recommendation in due course from the Commission.

During the period since the office became vacant, appropriate administrative duties attaching to the office have been assigned by the health authority to the Lay Superintendent of the Hospital. The question of assigning responsibility for the discharge of duties other than those of a purely administrative nature is also one within the competence of the health authority. It is understood that this responsibility has devolved upon the senior medical staff of the Hospital.

Do we take it from the Minister's reply that responsibility has been placed on the lay superintendent there?

For the administrative duties, yes.

I asked who was responsible for the duties of the resident medical superintendent?

They are divided. The post is advertised and they are going to fill it.
