Vol. 194 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ordnance Survey Maps.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance what steps, if any, he proposes to take to bring the ordnance survey maps of the country up to date.

Work is now commencing on the new primary triangulation of the State, in order to meet the requirements of modern mapping, particularly in recently-developed urban areas. Work on a new levelling network of the State, regulated by the most modern standards and techniques, has been in progress for some years. Field surveying of detail for inclusion in Ordnance Survey maps is continually in progress, with consequent revision of the maps for various districts. Further improvements in the maps will be possible with the advance of the programmes of levelling and triangulation.

Is it proposed to undertake an aerial survey of the country in connection with the new ordnance survey?

I am afraid I cannot answer that.
