I move:—
That a supplementary sum not exceeding £550 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1962, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Office of the Secretary to the President, and for certain other expenses of the President's Establishment (No. 24 of 1938) including a Grant-in-aid.
The provision under subhead A is required to cover the cost of salary increases and also to provide for the allowance payable to the substitute aide-de-camp to the President and to cover the cost of additional telephonists in Aras an Uachtaráin at the time of the visit of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco and at the opening of the Patrician Year. There is an offsetting saving of £220 on the subhead, due in part to one post of shorthand typist being unfilled since 1st February, 1962. The provision of £50 under subhead B represents the cost of installing extra telephones in Aras an Uachtaráin for the duration of the State visits.
