Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Section 18 of the Labourers Act, 1936, as amended by section 15 of the Housing Act, 1956, operates to the disadvantage of tenants where the state of repair for vesting is concerned, viz. N.6/10/737; and if he will arrange to have this grievance removed under the proposed Housing Bill, 1962.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider making provision in the proposed Housing Bill, 1962 to amend Section 6 of the Labourers (Ireland) Act, 1883, as amended, in order to enable housing authorities to provide plots exceeding one acre for farm workers.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos.32 and 33 together.

The matters to which the Deputy refers would not be appropriate for consideration in connection with the forthcoming Bill which will deal with grants and loans. Amendment of the law on the lines suggested by the Deputy is not contemplated in further proposed legislation concerning local authority housing.
