Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of County Kildare Lands.

49.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that part of the lands of Herbertstown, Naas, County Kildare, containing 35 acres I rood and 8 perches statute measure, were on the 14th March 1962 sold for £4,000; if he will state the date upon which this farm was allotted by the Land Commission to the vendor; whether in exchange for such allotment the vendor gave up any other lands; and, if so, if he will state their area and rateable valuation and the price at which such lands were resold by the Land Commission.

These lands were allotted by the Land Commission on 10th April, 1959, in exchange for a holding comprising 10a. 0r. 18p. together with an undivided share of a 480 acres commonage — Rateable Valuation £3 15s. The Land Commission are aware that a sale of the new holding took place recently. Such allottees have a saleable interest in the new holdings as they previously had in the exchanged holdings.

In this case, the exchanged holding is pending for inclusion in a scheme to be prepared for the rearrangement of intermixed holdings, and resale prices have not as yet been fixed.

He got a nice little present before he went to America, did he not?

The owners of migrants' holdings are quite free in this country to dispose of them, just the same as they would be in regard to the holdings they left.

As a local person who was allocated land?

Not in addition which is a different thing, if the Deputy will read the question.

They give away only half an acre in the West and they get a good farm for it.
