Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Limerick Afforestation.

52.

asked the Minister for Lands if his Department have any proposals for the extension of afforestation in East Limerick during 1962.

So far, the Forestry Division of my Department has planted a total of 6,567 acres at the three Forest Centres in East Limerick and during the year 1962/63 the planting of further areas totalling 256 acres will be undertaken. This will practically exhaust the plantable reserve of land available at these Centres and further development will depend on the rate at which additional land can be acquired for planting. My Department is at present dealing with 24 offers of lands for forestry purposes in East Limerick, involving a total area of 1,746 acres. Price agreement has been reached in two cases with a total area of 175 acres and title to these areas is in course of clearance. Negotiations for the purchase of seven other areas totalling 930 acres are in progress and the remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.
