Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Storm Damage to Galway Glasshouses.

58.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht the amount of storm damage caused to glass houses in West Galway in the past winter; and if he proposes to give financial assistance for repairs to them.

I mí Meán Fómhair, 1961, rinne stoirm damáiste mór ar ocht gcinn de na tithe gloine a bhí in úsáid le roinnt bhlianta anuas agus ar fhormhór na dtithe nua a bhí díreach críochnaithe nó gar do bheith críochnaithe i gConamara. I gcás na seantithe, tuigim go raibh dhá cheann díobh faoi árachas ag na húinéirí. Sna sé cásanna eile tá socraithe á ndéanamh ag an Roinn Talmhaíochta chun an damáiste a rinneadh a dheisiú—trian den chostas a bheith le seasamh ag an úinéir i ngach cás. Tá an cheist faoi dheisiú na dtithe nua á phlé go fóill idir Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí agus na conraitheoirí.

Do chuir mé an cheist i mBéarla agus ba mhaith liom an freagra d'fháil i mBéarla.

Ní gá é sin a dhéanamh.

Nach bhfuil an Teachta i ndán é a thuiscint?

Do chuireas an cheist i mBéarla agus teastaíonn an freagra uaim i mBéarla.

In September, 1961, serious damage was caused by a storm in Connemara to eight glasshouses which had been in use for some years and to most of the new houses which had just been finished or were near completion. In the case of the old houses, I understand that two of them were insured by the owners. In the other six cases, arrangements are being made by the Department of Agriculture to have the damage repaired, the owner to be responsible for one-third of the cost in each case. The question of repairing the new houses is still under discussion between the Office of Public Works and the contractors.

We have to teach Irish to Fine Gael.
