Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Applicants.

59.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants for telephones in each of the postal areas No. 6 and No. 12, Dublin.

The information requested is as follows:—

Dublin Postal District No. 6

Approx. 300

Dublin Postal District No. 12

Approx. 500

60.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will indicate when he expects to meet the demand for new telephones in Crumlin and Dolphin's Barn, Dublin.

It is hoped to clear the bulk of the applications for telephones in Crumlin and Dolphin's Barn within the next six months and the remainder within the following six months.

What about County Monaghan? They are waiting, too, you know.

I explained that on the Estimate and I pointed to the fact that the Deputy's Government provided only £6 million.

The sum of £6 million was not too bad six years ago.

They cut the capital available by £2 million.

I told the Minister that is not true; that, in fact, the Deputy's Government provided more money for Posts and Telegraphs and telephone extensions in 1957 than you did in 1958, 1959 and 1960. The Minister would want to know what he is talking about. The Minister had to admit on his own Estimate that he had not been telling the truth.

The Deputy doth protest too much.

I told the truth and I could have gone nearer the bone if I wanted to. I could have stripped the Deputy to the bone if I had wanted to.

Would it be another untruth like that of the Minister for Agriculture who will not put the facts on the Table?

The Deputy had not a "bob" to give anybody.

They were broke.

They had not a "bob".

We gave more than you ever gave since.
