Vol. 194 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Propaganda Films.

4.

asked the Minister for Health whether his Department has made, or proposes to have made, any short films of a propaganda, publicity or other nature for showing either in cinemas or on television; and, if so, whether all such films were, or will be, made entirely by Irish companies in so far as this is possible.

Five films of a health publicity nature have been made specially for my Department. The themes covered in these films are care of the teeth, food hygiene, diphtheria, tuberculosis and accidents in the home.

All these films were made in Ireland by Irish companies with Irish actors. They have been shown extensively in the school film shows sponsored by my Department, and, through the co-operation of the cinema managers, in the commercial cinemas throughout the country. Versions of these films in Irish and in English are available.

And they will continue to be made by Irish firms, if possible?

Yes, so far as we can get them produced, and I have no doubt we can.
