Vol. 195 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of Dangerous Bridges.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether his Department would be prepared to make special grants from the Road Fund for the removal of dangerous hump-back bridges in County Kildare so as to minimise the danger of accidents.

Only major bridge works on important traffic routes can be considered for special grants out of the Road Fund and the amount available for such grants in any year is strictly limited. County councils are expected to deal with minor bridge projects, including bridge works on county roads, out of their ordinary annual Main or County Road Improvement Grants, as appropriate, with the aid, if necessary, of a loan.
