Vol. 195 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Road.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he received a proposal from Galway County Council that a new road should be constructed that would bypass the village of Aughrim; if he will consult with, or seek the opinion of, the residents of Aughrim before he sanctions this proposal, as it is viewed with much alarm in the area.

There are a number of dangerous corners at, and in the vicinity of, the village of Aughrim on the trunk road T.4A. This is a major traffic route, most of which has already been improved to a reasonable standard. In the interests of safety, therefore, and in order that full benefit may be derived from the work which has been done on other sections of the road, the county council have been informed that a special Road Fund grant would be made available to meet the cost of a suitable scheme for the improvement of the alignment of the section at Aughrim. It is now a matter for the county council to consider the specific proposals to be submitted for the works to be undertaken under the special grant.
