Vol. 195 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding of Mayo Lands.

48.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that during the heavy flooding of the River Deel last year the river banks at Keenagh, County Mayo were washed away, thus causing continuous flooding to the lands of the small farmers in this area; and if he will take steps immediately to have the matter investigated with a view to erecting walls to protect the lands of the many small farmers who are affected.

No complaint was received by my Department locally, or otherwise, in respect of alleged flood damage in this area, although the flood occurred in July, 1961.

I am, however, having inquiries made.

The Minister will regard my question as being in the form of a complaint?

I will accept the Deputy's Question as a complaint. I am well acquainted with the people in this area and in my experience they were never so backward in coming forward before if they had a complaint.
