Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conservation of Lobsters and Crayfish.

80.

asked the Minister for Lands if he can take any steps to ensure the conservation of lobsters and crayfish along the west coast of Ireland.

It is an offence to land lobsters less than nine inches in length and proceedings are taken against offenders. The adequacy of that size limit for conservation of lobsters is being examined and, if an amendment is found necessary, a new size limit will be prescribed. An investigation of crawfish stocks has recently been undertaken.

I would appeal to fishermen, in their own interests, to return to the sea undersized fish of any variety immediately after they are caught.
