Vol. 196 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Moy Drainage Scheme Damage.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance the approximate time that will elapse before compensation will be paid to farmers as a result of damage to their lands arising out of the River Moy drainage scheme.

Claims for compensation for damage to lands on arterial drainage schemes are normally dealt with as they arise but I cannot forecast how long it may take to dispose of them. Their nature varies—some may have to await completion of all the works; some depend on negotiations with the landowners, while others may involve arbitration proceedings and I would have no effective control over the time required.
