Vol. 196 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nobber (Meath) Dispensary.

11.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that Nobber dispensary district, County Meath has been without a medical officer for some time past; and if he will, in the interests of the people of the area who require such medical care and attention, take such steps as are open to him to speed up such an appointment.

The permanent office of district medical officer, Nobber dispensary district, became vacant on the 31st March, 1962. It is understood that the Local Appointments Commission expect to advertise this post, along with other similar permanent vacancies, within the next month. In the meantime, in accordance with normal procedure, the health authority has arranged for the provision of services in the district on a temporary basis.

Is it not possible to have a locum appointed in the district during the time there is no permanent appointment?

As a matter of fact, they did try to get a locum but the dispensary officer from a neighbouring district is now doing duty.

And he is overburdened already.

That may be so but doctors are just not to be taken off the shelf.
