Vol. 196 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Delivery of Postal Packets.

47.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of postal packets addressed to public Departments which are entitled to delivery free of charge to the senders the appropriate inscription to be endorsed by senders on the packets to indicate that the packet is posted on official business.

As indicated on page 23 of Volume I of the Post Office Guide, postage on every postal packet addressed to a Government Department or an officer of the Government should, as a general rule, be prepaid just as if it were addressed to a private person. Exceptionally, however, letters upon the business of the State which are addressed to a Minister or other high officer of the Government at his office in Dublin are delivered without prepayment and without surcharge. A special inscription is not required on such items.
