Vol. 196 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations.

51.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state for the years 1961 and 1962, giving estimated dates where necessary, in the case of (a) the intermediate certificate and (b) the leaving certificate the dates on which the examination took place, the date by which the persons charged with marking the papers were required to return the marked papers to his Department, and the date on which the examination results were, or are to be announced.

The Intermediate and Leaving Certificate examinations were held in the period 7th to 19th June in 1961 and in the period 6th to 19th June in 1962. The final date for the receipt in the Department from the markers of the returns of the marks varies in accordance with the subject concerned and in 1961 the period within which such final dates fell extended from the 17th to the 28th July in the case of the Leaving Certificate Examination and from the 7th July to the 18th August in the case of the Intermediate Certificate Examination. It is anticipated that the corresponding periods this year will be the 16th to the 28th July in the case of the Leaving Certificate and the 6th July to the 18th August in the case of the Intermediate Certificate Examination. The provisional results of the Leaving Certificate Examination were issued to the schools on the 9th August in 1961 and of the Intermediate Certificate Examination on the 7th September. It is hoped that the Leaving Certificate Examination provisional results will be available for issue this year not later than the 10th August and the Intermediate Certificate Examination provisional results not later than the 7th September.
