Vol. 196 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Replacement and Reconstruction.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state for each county in the Republic (a) the number of dwellinghouses which need replacement, (b) the number suitable for reconstruction, (c) the number unsuitable for reconstruction, and (d) the name and position of the person in each county who gave the decisions in relation to (a), (b) and (c) (county managers and county secretaries excluded).

Statistics in the form requested by the Deputy are not available in my Department. The Survey which I requested required each housing authority to ascertain

(1) the number of dwellings unfit for human habitation at present occupied;

(2) the number of such dwellings which are capable of economic repair.

The results of the survey under these headings in so far as they have been furnished to my Department to date were given in my Replies to Questions by Deputy Clinton on 4th July, 1962, and to Deputy Tully on 15th March, 1962.

With regard to the last part of the Deputy's Question the housing authority in each case would have overall responsibility for any decisions taken as to the fitness or otherwise of any dwelling in that area.
